The new Medsi
A visual language exploration

A visual language study for a medical app. Research, exploration, and a new direction — from grey and fragmented to clean and cohesive
New font shipped
Clean, cohesive visual language defined
A bold vision for the future of the app
The original app was grey, messy, and uninspiring. Outdated stock illustrations with no consistent style, broken components, a harsh font, and no visual identity.
I had time to experiment — and I happily used it
Approach
I wanted to bring the cleanliness of a clinic but the warmth of a modern home or a hotel lobby. No sterile, surgical feeling. Just calm, comfort, and human touch — while keeping the brand's DNA.
And I wanted to connect the app with the physical space — clinic interiors, printed materials, navigation signs. A single visual language across all touchpoints

Research & inspiration
I collected tons of visual references: street illustrations, banners, posters, interior materials, navigation signs, print products. Competitors, Russian brands, global medical apps — anything that gave the right atmosphere

Unifying the experience
The app shouldn't feel separate from the physical space

Typography
The old font felt like it belonged in a steel factory. I explored dozens of typefaces, ranked them, and proposed a replacement. The new font shipped

Color & atmosphere
From grey and dirty green to white, airy, and calm. One accent colour to bring life. The goal: a clean clinic + a comfortable home/hotel feeling.
I explored several color schemes — all close to the brand palette, but with different moods: a more modern, contrast look, a calmer version, or with an additional accent colour.
Before, the accent colour was used everywhere — whether it helped or not. This created visual noise and made it harder for users to follow the flow
Classic

Modern

Vision. Beyond the horizon
I also explored a bolder, more modern direction. A vision beyond current constraints — showing what could be possible

References. Tons of material
I collected a massive library of visual references: color palettes, gradients, interfaces, 3D visuals, and printed graphics. A deep dive into what "modern" could mean for Medsi.
I also explored the richest, most expressive 3D visuals from top‑tier services and apps — to understand how depth and texture could elevate the interface.

Chatbot & Smartik mascot
I designed a 3D character for the in-app chatbot. His name is Smartik. His face is a pixel screen — and it shows emotions. Sad, happy, confused, calm. It’s a simple but powerful way to make the bot feel alive.
He also has subtle idle animations. Nothing distracting — just enough to feel human
